HEaRD In WNY: Top Shows For March 30 - April 5

This week's featured show is The Metal Webzine's 2nd Birthday Bash, 8 p.m. Friday at Mohawk Place.

The Metal is Buffalo's webzine that's dedicated to reporting what's happening in metal in Buffalo and beyond. They love getting people into new bands, reviewing the bands and albums they love and spreading the word of metal to all those willing to read it.

Started two years ago, the trio of Mike Marlinski (Founder, Author, Editor), Vick Sacha (Author, Editor, Wit, Tacos), & Mike Deitzman (The Masked Promoter) have created a home for all those who love and support our local Metal scene. They also bring their friends together for some killer shows throughout the year, and March 31st may set a new bar. Dethlehem from Pittsburgh is a favorite in the area with their RPG Metal. Anthropic kills the Grindcore and Mass Casualty will bring their Death Metal from right here in Buffalo. Out of Delevan, The Crypt have called 716 their second home with their well crafted Metalcore. And to round out the line up, Anabasis (ex Spire) are your new favorite Progressive Metal band out of Syracuse.

The Metal crew is from the scene, for the scene. Mike is currently a retail supervisor, and though that takes up a lot of his time, he is the lead vocalist for local melodic death band, The Last Reign. His favorite bands include In Flames, Nightwish, Dark Tranquility, and At the Gates. Vick is currently a history major at Buffalo State College. Her area of interest is early 20th c. Russia. She’s almost always reading a sci-fi novel. A few of her favorite bands are Origin, Cattle Decapitation, Protest the Hero, Periphery, and Allegaeon. Mike has been in the Buffalo scene for 19 years (since’97) or so, promoting shows and supporting your favorite bands. He holds the world title for “The World’s Slightliest Attractive Male” and doesn’t feel the least bit sorry about his love of old Limp Bizkit or Primer 55. Some of his newer musical loves are Buffalo’s own Darkapathy and the wrestling themed sensations, Eat the Turnbuckle.

Check out The Metal at www.themetalwebzine.com or on Facebook, and come celebrate their 2nd Anniversary at the legendary Mohawk Place this Saturday, March 31 starting at 8 p.m. Metal! Alcohol! Raffles! Cake! Magazines! Stickers! Only $10 @ the door!
