Poetry Slam to Save LGBTQ Lives slated for Jan. 13

All WNY Radio     Monday, December 19, 2016

BUFFALO -- A poetry slam to be held Friday (the 13th) of January at Mohawk Place aims to raise awareness about a very scary statistic -- especially for those in the LGBTQ community.

Michael Manning, the featured poet laureate and ringmaster for the evening, says he will be joined by several other local poets in attempting to stop the rapid spread of several illnesses which are running rampant in both the poorest and riches parts of Buffalo: Hepatitis C, HIV/Aids, and herpes. Also, the event hopes to impress upon the public at large that 1/3 of members of the lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans/queer community attempts suicide in their youth. Far too many succeed in their attempt.

Manning recently talked with All WNY News Editor Scott Leffler about the slam, the cause, and himself. Listen to the interview below.

Poetry Slam to Save LGBTQ Lives is presented by For the Music Productions, headed by Greg Burt, an All WNY News and Radio contributor, and member of the All WNY Awards committee.
